TitleMace
Creator Anthony Nelme
DescriptionSilver-gilt mace by Anthony Nelme in 1683. Presented to the College by Dr John Lawson in 1683. The style of the College mace follows the design of the Commonwealth mace ordered by Oliver Cromwell for the House of Commons and made by the London goldsmith Thomas Maundy in 1649.
The mace consists of a crown supported by a long rod. On the top of the crown are the royal crowns of England supported by the lion and unicorn, and on the four sides of the crown are the rose, thistle, fleur de lis, and harp of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, each having the letters C.II. on its sides. The same emblems are repeated down the rod.
