DescriptionSilver inkstand, including three lidded silver ink pots with lids. Oval inkstand by John Wakelin & William Taylor, London, 789; the three ink pots by Wakelin & Robert Garrard, London, 1798. It was presented by Queen Charlotte, consort to George III, to Dr Matthew Baillie in gratitude for his attendance on her daughter Princess Amelia. Baillie was a fellow and censor of the RCP.
Oval outline with slanted gadroon border, the three slightly later pots each with concave fluting and angular scroll handles and pull-off covers, raised on four inverted lotus bud feet, the oval stand engraved with the cipher of Queen Charlotte and coat of arms of Baillie impaling Denman. The reverse of the stand is engraved with the following:
‘The Queen wishes Dr. Baillie to accept / This small present as an acknowledgement / for his attendance upon her deceased beloved / Child Princess Amelia which cannot be / obliterated from her mind / Windsor / the 12th. Novr. 1810 / Charlotte
