Scope and ContentCollection of cardiology research material, patient case notes and correspondence, including extensive study of the hearts of First World War soldiers. In The Study of the Pulse (1902) Sir James described his ‘polygraph’, a diagnostic tool that allowed him to measure the arterial and venous pulses separately and compare them to the heartbeat. A large number of these polygraph charts from throughout his career are included in this collection. The Mackenzie polygraph is unrelated to the lie detector polygraph, which was invented in 1921.
